West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou

West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou

Su Causeway & Bai Causeway: Historic causeways lined with willow and peach trees that divide the lake and offer scenic walking paths.

Leifeng Pagoda: A striking five-story tall tower that provides panoramic views and is the setting for the famous "Legend of the White Snake."

Lingyin Temple: One of the largest and wealthiest Buddhist temples in China, located in the hills northwest of the lake.

Longjing (Dragon Well) Tea Fields: The birthplace of the world-famous Longjing green tea, situated in the hills surrounding the lake.

The West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou comprises the West Lake and the hills surrounding its three sides. For centuries, this site has inspired famous poets, scholars, and artists with its "ideal fusion between man and nature." The landscape includes causeways, artificial islands, temples, pagodas, and ornamental gardens, which have profoundly influenced garden design in China, Japan, and Korea for over a millennium.
